UAT merged with TAI to form UTA in 1963; Air France later became UTA's controlling shareholder in 1990. Air Afrique served African, European and North American destinations, but financial difficulties deepened from the 1980s. It ceased operations in January 2002 and was declared bankrupt on 7 February 2002.
