In 1975, Florida Airlines acquired Air South, making it a wholly owned subsidiary alongside Shawnee Airlines. Air South continued to fly under its own name for several years after the acquisition. Following the Airline Deregulation Act, the airline ceased operations in 1978. Florida Airlines subsequently operated as Florida Airlines and Air South until 1981, marking the end of the shared brand.
