Harriman gained control in 1907, then sold his interest to Illinois Central in 1909. The railway entered receivership in 1932 and emerged in 1948. Southern Railway became its owner in 1963; in 1971, Southern formed the Central of Georgia Railroad to combine it with the Savannah and Atlanta Railway and Wrightsville and Tennille Railroad.
