Woolworth Company. It expanded into the United Kingdom in 1909, Ireland in 1914, Germany in 1927, and Mexico in 1956. The company added Woolco discount stores in 1962 and acquired Kinney Shoe Corporation in 1963; Kinney led to Foot Locker in 1974. Woolworth’s United Kingdom division was divested in 1982. In July 1997, the last U.S. Woolworth department stores closed.
