The company added Cameron-Brown, a mortgage banking and insurance firm, in 1964 and incorporated as First Union Corporation in 1967. A 1968 reorganization established the corporate structure used until the Wachovia merger. Following the 1985 Supreme Court decision supporting regional interstate banking legislation, First Union pursued rapid expansion, completing more than 90 banking-related acquisitions through 2001.
