Jacobson's later operated in Michigan, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Kansas, selling apparel, fine jewelry and home furnishings. In the 1990s it opened in Louisville and added stores in Leawood and Boca Raton, while facing retail decline and losses. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2002, liquidated its remaining stores and closed. Von Maur acquired the Briarwood Mall and Laurel Park Place stores. In 2004, Jake's Stores acquired the Jacobson's name and reopened a single Florida store near Winter Park; that successor operation closed in 2011.
