kohls-food-stores-car-coaster
Kohl's Food Stores Car Coaster
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Let a little southeastern Wisconsin retail history ride along with this Kohl's Food Stores car coaster. Maxwell Kohl built his first supermarket in 1946, beginning a grocery chain that became the largest in the Milwaukee area. The stores later passed to A&P, used the Kohl's Food Emporium name, and closed in 2003. It is a small everyday reminder of a familiar regional brand, well suited to former shoppers, Milwaukee-area history fans, and collectors of supermarket memorabilia.

Kohl's Food Stores grew from grocery businesses operated by Maxwell Kohl since 1927. In 1946, he built his first supermarket, the beginning of a southeastern Wisconsin chain that became the largest supermarket chain in the Milwaukee area. The business also formed part of a wider Kohl's company: in September 1962, Maxwell Kohl opened its first department store in Brookfield, Wisconsin. In 1972, Batus Inc., the U.S. retail division of British American Tobacco Company, bought a controlling interest in Kohl's Corporation, which then operated 50 grocery stores along with department, drug, and liquor stores. Members of the Kohl family, including Allen and Herb Kohl, continued to manage the company; Herb left management in 1979. In 1983, the grocery stores were sold to The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A&P), and operated first as Kohl's Food Store and later as Kohl's Food Emporium. In February 2003, A&P put the stores up for sale as part of a debt-reduction effort. That year, A&P closed all Kohl's Food Stores locations. Madison-area stores were sold to Roundy's; a reported possible purchase by Jewel did not proceed.

2.6'' × 2.6"

Width, in

2.60

Height, in

2.60

Thickness, in

0.30

Product features

- Made from 100% soapstone — naturally absorbent

- Available in 1, 2, or 4-piece sets with the same print on each

- One-sided full-color print with a matte finish

- 2.6″ × 2.6″ size fits most vehicle drink holders; notch for easy removal

- Removable “Made in China” sticker on the bottom

Care instructions

- Gently wipe the dirt or dust off with a clean, dry microfiber cloth

EU representative: HONSON VENTURES LIMITED, gpsr@honsonventures.com, 3, Gnaftis House flat 102, Limassol, Mesa Geitonia, 4003, CY

Product information: Generic brand, 2 year warranty in EU and Northern Ireland as per Directive 1999/44/EC

Care instructions: Gently wipe the dirt or dust off with a clean, dry microfiber cloth
