DC-3 service ended in 1967, and by spring 1968 its fleet consisted of Convair 580 and Nord 262 turboprops. On March 5, 1967, Flight 527 crashed near Marseilles, Ohio, killing all 38 passengers and crew. Effective July 1, 1968, Lake Central was acquired by and merged into Allegheny Airlines.
