new-york-department-stores-metal-bottle-opener
New York Department Stores Metal Bottle Opener
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

A small everyday piece with a connection to a much larger retail story, this New York Department Stores Metal Bottle Opener honors the Kogan family’s Puerto Rican business. From a ladies’ clothing shop in Caguas, the company grew into a department-store chain with locations in San Juan and communities across the island. Its Santurce store helped introduce new ways to shop, while later acquisitions marked the end of an era. A distinctive keepsake for collectors of Puerto Rico’s commercial history.

New York Department Stores grew from a ladies’ clothing business started by Salomón and Roberto Kogan in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Salomón arrived from New York City in 1931, and the brothers expanded to Guayama, Ponce, and Yauco. In 1936 they opened Broadway Department Stores and Manhattan Department Stores in San Juan. A larger, air-conditioned store at Santurce opened on May 7, 1941; it introduced customer self-selection and shorter working hours that other merchants adopted. In 1942, after Kleins’ owners left Puerto Rico, the Kogans acquired its premises and consolidated their three San Juan stores under the New York Department Stores name. A store designed by Henry Klumb opened at Santurce’s stop 17 on April 1, 1947. The chain later expanded to Bayamón, Guaynabo, Mayagüez, and other Puerto Rican communities. In 1988, its shares transferred to NYTSA Acquisition alongside Seedman’s and Santurce Realty. In 1994, Marshalls agreed to acquire most of the chain’s stores, with many slated for conversion or closure. By 1995, investor Investcorp had abandoned hopes of recovery and returned its original investment to clients.

This slim, all-metal bottle opener feels like the trusted tool you reach for when friends gather and stories start. Forged from heavy-duty stainless steel, it slides into a pocket or bartending apron without bulk, then delivers confident leverage when a cold drink needs freeing. The flat surface accepts crisp laser engraving, so names, dates, or logos stay sharp through years of use. Use it behind the home bar, at backyard tailgates, or hand one to each member of your wedding party — it’s built to take commercial-level wear while still looking clean and refined. Simple, sturdy, and ready for the next toast.

Product features

- 100% heavy-duty stainless steel resists rust and bending

- Flat surface optimized for permanent precision laser engraving

- Ergonomic all-metal grip provides strong leverage

- Slim, ultra-flat profile fits pockets and bar drawers

- Commercial-grade durability for frequent use

One size

Width, in

5.50

Height, in

1.50

EU representative: HONSON VENTURES LIMITED, gpsr@honsonventures.com, 3, Gnaftis House flat 102, Limassol, Mesa Geitonia, 4003, CY

Product information: Generic brand, two year warranty in the EU and Northern Ireland
