Founded in Boston in 1880, the brokerage developed through new partnerships, a move to New York, investment banking, and landmark acquisitions. Its 2000 merger with UBS created a new chapter, and the PaineWebber name was replaced by UBS Wealth Management USA in 2003. This keepsake celebrates a recognizable financial-services identity and the story behind its transformation.

Founded in Boston in 1880 by William A. Paine and Wallace G. Webber, the brokerage began as Paine & Webber and leased offices at 48 Congress Street in 1881. It became Paine, Webber & Co. when Charles H. Paine joined the partnership, and acquired a New York Stock Exchange seat in 1890. The firm entered investment banking in the 1920s. In 1942, it merged with Boston firm Jackson & Curtis, becoming Paine, Webber, Jackson & Curtis. The company moved its headquarters to New York in 1963; its holding company, PaineWebber Inc., was incorporated in 1969 and went public in 1974. Acquisitions expanded its services and reach, including Blyth, Eastman Dillon & Co. in 1979 and Kidder, Peabody & Co. in 1995. In 1984, divisions combined under the PaineWebber Inc. name, with PaineWebber Group Inc. established as parent. After acquiring J.C. Bradford & Co. in April 2000, the firm completed a $10.8 billion cash-and-stock merger with Zurich-based UBS on November 3, 2000. The business was initially called UBS PaineWebber; in 2003, the PaineWebber name was replaced by UBS Wealth Management USA.

2" x 2"

Width, in

2.00

Height, in

2.00

Depth, in

0.25

Product features

- 2" square porcelain tile with glossy finish

- Superior coating for bright, true-to-design color reproduction

- Vibrant, crisp printing using modern techniques

- Strong magnet mounted on the backside for secure hold

- Durable glossy surface that highlights fine details and contrasts

Care instructions

- Gently wipe the dirt or dust off with a clean, dry microfiber cloth
