It also ran Joe's Market, a Richmond specialty store named for its founder. In 1976, Ukrop's bought Richmond's Dot's Pastry Shop, using that name for years before changing it to Ukrop's Bakery. In 2009, locations in Williamsburg and Roanoke closed amid low sales and limited brand recognition. Giant-Carlisle, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Ahold, announced its purchase of 25 Ukrop's stores on December 17, 2009, for $140 million. The sale closed February 8, 2010, and stores became Martin's in spring 2010.
