In 2005, Ultimate filed for bankruptcy; Hollywood Video founder and then-CEO Mark Wattles acquired 32 stores at the bankruptcy auction, while the remaining half closed. The reorganized business became privately held and was operated by Ultimate Acquisition Partners, L.P., a division of Wattles Capital Management, LLC. In November 2010, it opened a Tigard, Oregon store, its only West Coast location. On January 27, 2011, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, later converted to Chapter 7 liquidation, ending operations in
