Stol Air Commuter changed its name to WestAir Airlines in 1978, and the company adopted the WestAir Commuter Airlines name in 1986. After the 1978 transition, WestAir Group acquired Redding-based Golden Eagle Airlines. WestAir became one of the first two regional carriers operating as United Express under a code-sharing agreement with United Airlines on May 1, 1985.
