wien-air-alaska-metal-sign
Wien Air Alaska Metal Sign
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Add a nod to Alaska’s aviation past with this Wien Air Alaska Metal Sign. From Noel Wien’s early flights to a statewide network connecting remote communities, the airline helped shape scheduled air travel in the north. Its history includes a 1968 merger, a 1973 name change, and pioneering jet service to gravel runways, giving collectors plenty to remember beyond the company name. A fitting accent for an aviation-themed room, office, or collection celebrating regional airline history and the communities it served.

Wien Air Alaska grew from Noel Wien’s early bush-flying business in Alaska. On July 6, 1924, he flew from Anchorage to Fairbanks, and in 1927 he began regular weekly service between Fairbanks and Nome. Wien Alaska Airways was incorporated in 1928. The company later operated as Wien Airways of Alaska and Wien Alaska Airlines, and expanded its network and services across the state. On April 1, 1968, Wien merged with Northern Consolidated Airlines, formed from several Alaska air services, and the combined airline was named Wien Consolidated Airlines. It became Wien Air Alaska on August 1, 1973. Its operations included propeller aircraft and Boeing 737-200 jets; the airline helped develop the 737-200 Combi for passenger and freight loads and pioneered jet service to gravel runways. By 1984, its routes reached Alaskan communities and cities in the western United States, with bases in Anchorage and Seattle. After financial pressure and a change in ownership, the airline ceased operations on November 23, 1984. Bankruptcy proceedings began five days later, and the company folded in 1985.

7" x 5" (Horizontal)

Width, in

7.00

Height, in

5.00

Depth, in

0.12

Product features

- 100% white aluminum composite — strong, rigid, and lightweight

- Matte full-color print on one side for crisp, non-reflective finish

- Eleven sizes available; horizontal, vertical, and square orientations

- Includes one mounting block, metal plate, and double-sided tape; customer assembly required

- Indoor use only — durable for interior displays

Care instructions

- Use non-abrasive, non-ammonium based products for cleaning.
