Columbia House
Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Founded in 1955 as the Columbia Record Club, Columbia House turned mail-order music into an American institution. For decades, magazine inserts tempted millions of people with stacks of records, tapes, and CDs for prices that seemed mathematically impossible — provided you remembered there was considerably more fine print on the other side.
At its peak, Columbia House put music collections within reach of an entire generation. Then came big-box retailers, online shopping, MP3s, downloads, and eventually streaming. Suddenly, waiting several weeks for a CD to arrive in the mail felt slightly less revolutionary.
The music club shut down in 2009, ending more than half a century of tiny stamps, cardboard order forms, and contractual obligations nobody remembers agreeing to.
Come for 12 CDs for a penny. Stay because apparently you agreed to buy six more at regular club prices.
