Eastern Air

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

“Eastern Air” identifies Eastern Air Lines, the classic U.S. carrier born from Pitcairn Aviation in 1926. The company became Eastern Air Transport in 1930 and adopted the Eastern Air Lines name in 1934, as commercial aviation was still equal parts airmail, ambition, and weather reports delivered with a straight face.

Led for many years by World War I ace Eddie Rickenbacker, Eastern developed into one of America’s major domestic airlines. Its network linked East Coast cities, the South, the Midwest, Florida and the Caribbean; the airline also introduced its celebrated Air Shuttle service between Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C., in 1961. A dependable trip between three cities, plus all the glamour an hourly timetable could muster.

Eastern’s headquarters were at Rockefeller Center in New York City before Frank Borman moved the main office to Miami in 1975. By then, the carrier’s crisp blue-and-white image had become inseparable from jet-age terminals, Florida escapes, and the gloriously confident promise that the shuttle would keep shuttling.

Texas Air acquired Eastern in 1986. Labor conflict and financial strain followed; Eastern entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1989 and ceased flight operations on January 18, 1991. The route maps folded, the gates changed hands, and a very large piece of airline history became terminal memorabilia.

Our Eastern Air collection celebrates the airline’s unapologetically clean jet-age identity: a salute to boarding passes, blue stripes, airport coffee, and a corporate ghost that still looks ready for pushback.
