Geo (Autos)

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Geo was General Motors’ late-1980s answer to the wave of small, affordable Japanese cars winning over American buyers. Launched in 1989 as a sub-brand of Chevrolet, Geo sold compact cars and SUVs developed through GM’s partnerships with Toyota, Suzuki, and Isuzu.

The lineup included the tiny, fuel-sipping Metro, the Toyota-based Prizm, the sporty Storm, and the Tracker — a small SUV that became one of the brand’s most recognizable models. Geo vehicles came from an unusually international family tree: the Prizm was built at the GM-Toyota NUMMI plant in California, while the Metro and Tracker were produced through GM’s partnership with Suzuki.

Geo never became a permanent fixture in GM’s sprawling collection of automotive brands. In 1997, General Motors retired the Geo name and folded its remaining models back into Chevrolet, where the Metro, Prizm, and Tracker continued for several more years wearing bow-tie badges instead.

Apparently, even General Motors eventually decided it had enough brands.

Our Geo collection celebrates the colorful badges, tiny hatchbacks, compact SUVs, and unmistakably 1990s optimism of one of GM’s shortest-lived automotive experiments.
