Kamm's Corners

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

“Kamm’s Corners” was not originally a corporation but the enduring name of a crossroads made famous by Oswald Kamm’s grocery store. Swiss-born Kamm established the business in 1875 on four acres at the southwest corner of Lorain Street (now Lorain Avenue) and Rocky River Drive in Rockport Township, a location now within Cleveland, Ohio.

The store did more than dispense provisions. In 1886, Kamm became postmaster for the Rockport Township office, collecting mail from the Nickel Plate Railroad station in Rocky River and operating the post office from his shop. Outgoing mail bore the address “Kamm’s Ohio,” helping turn one merchant’s counter into a regional landmark.

Kamm’s original small building faced Rocky River Drive, then the busier route. It was replaced around 1898–1900 by the larger Kamm Building still standing at the intersection. The building subsequently hosted a long parade of businesses, especially restaurants—because apparently every useful old commercial building eventually wants to serve fries.

Oswald Kamm died in 1922, shortly before West Park’s January 1, 1923 annexation to Cleveland. His store’s independent era ended with its founder, but the name stuck harder than a century of roadside grime.

Our Kamm's Corners collection celebrates the modest grocery-and-mail operation that accidentally branded a Cleveland neighborhood: provisions, postmarks, interurban traffic, and one extremely durable corner-store legacy.
