Rite Aid

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Alex Grass opened the first Thrift D Discount Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on September 12, 1962. The little discount drugstore grew fast, adopted the Rite Aid Corporation name in 1968, and became a familiar stop for prescriptions, candy, shampoo, batteries, and the oddly specific item you only remember needing at 9:47 p.m.

For most of its independent life, Rite Aid was headquartered in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. The chain built national scale through expansion and acquisitions, including Read’s Drug Store in 1977, the 1996 Thrifty PayLess merger that brought more than 1,000 western stores into the fold, and the 2007 acquisition of Brooks and Eckerd locations. Red signage, weekly circulars, and fluorescent pharmacy counters spread across the map.

In 2022, Rite Aid shifted its corporate headquarters to Philadelphia’s Navy Yard. Financial strain led to a Chapter 11 filing in October 2023; the company emerged as a private business in 2024, but returned to Chapter 11 in May 2025 to sell substantially all remaining assets. Stores closed or changed hands, while prescription files and selected Pacific Northwest locations moved to CVS Pharmacy in 2025.

Our Rite Aid collection celebrates the corner-drugstore era: prescription bags, Thrifty ice cream memories, aisle-end bargains, and that dependable red-letter beacon promising one more errand before dinner. Corporate pharmacy, but make it haunted.
