World Atlantic Airlines
Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
World Atlantic Airlines is the later identity of Caribbean Sun Airlines, Inc., founded in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in September 2002. Caribbean Sun began flying on January 21, 2003, linking San Juan, Puerto Rico, with Tortola using Bombardier Dash 8-100s. It worked alongside Caribbean Star Airlines in the island-hopping business—because apparently the Caribbean required still more timetables, gate announcements, and tiny bags of pretzels.
Caribbean Sun ceased flight operations near the end of January 2007. A proposed revival under the Merengue Airlines Dominicana name did not take off. Following a change in ownership, the company was acquired by an investor group led by Tomas Romero in January 2009 and re-emerged as World Atlantic Airlines, shifting attention to on-demand and scheduled charter flying.
The reborn carrier operated from the Miami area, including a documented Virginia Gardens headquarters, and flew McDonnell Douglas MD-80-family aircraft. It provided charter capacity for Myrtle Beach Direct Air before that operator stopped flying in March 2012. The World Atlantic name also appeared on ACMI and regional charter work—less sun-drenched scheduled-island romance, more practical lift when somebody needed an airplane and crew.
Our World Atlantic Airlines collection celebrates the stubborn second act: a Caribbean commuter lineage retooled into a Miami-area charter outfit, with the sort of early-2000s airline identity that looks right at home on a boarding pass, baggage tag, or well-worn airport carpet. World Atlantic Airlines is not defunct; the brand and its underlying Caribbean Sun corporate entity remained active in 2026.
