This A. B. Dick Company kids tee brings a real chapter of printing history to young curious minds. Founded in Chicago in 1883, the company became famous for mimeograph equipment that helped people make and share pages long before today’s instant copying. A. B. Dick Company was founded in Chicago in 1883 by Albert Blake Dick as a lumber company. It soon expanded into office supplies and, after licensing autographic printing patents from Thomas Edison, became the world's largest manufacturer of mimeograph equipment. Albert Dick coined the term mimeograph, and the company introduced its Model 0 Flatbed Duplicator in 1887. Flatbed machines later gave way to rotating-cylinder duplicators with automatic ink feed, offered in hand-cranked and electric-motor versions. A new headquarters opened in 1926 at 728 West Jackson, later known as Haberdasher Square Lofts; the company moved to Niles in 1949. Its Model 350 and 360 presses, used with Itek Graphix plate makers, helped support quick-printing shops from the 1960s through the 1980s. Acquired by British General Electric Company in 1979, it bought Itek Graphix in 1988. After bankruptcy in 2004, its assets went to Presstek; the ABDick division was sold to Mark Andy in 2013, which continued marketing the brand as of 2024.
