The company went public on April 29, 1987, and expanded through acquisitions including Dorney Park in 1992, Worlds of Fun in 1995, and Knott’s Berry Farm in 1997. In 2006, it acquired Paramount Parks from CBS Corporation and adopted Cedar Fair Entertainment Company as its business name, while retaining Cedar Fair LP as its legal name. The company later acquired Michigan’s Adventure, water parks, and other properties. In November 2023, Cedar Fair and Six Flags announced a merger. Completed July 1, 2024, the transaction dissolved both companies and formed Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. Former Cedar Fair stockholders received a 51.2 percent majority stake, and the new company kept Cedar Fair’s FUN ticker.
