GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Set your phone down with a nod to the retailer that once brought household appliances, televisions, and electronics together under one roof. This H. H. Gregg Foldable Mobile Phone Display Stand recalls a company founded in Indianapolis in 1955 by Henry Harold and Fansy Gregg. Its original chain grew across several regions before closing in 2017, and the name later returned under new ownership. A useful desk companion for former shoppers and collectors of American retail history.
H. H. Gregg began in 1955, when Henry Harold and Fansy Gregg established an appliance storefront in Indianapolis, Indiana. The family business grew from washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, and grills to include televisions and other electronics. Jerry W. Throgmartin joined the business in 1975 and became chairman and CEO in 1999. Under his and later Dennis L. May’s leadership, the retailer expanded across the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast, reaching 125 stores in nine states by 2009. It also moved into new markets using former Circuit City locations, and launched the premium-appliance Fine Lines division in 2004. H. H. Gregg became a public company in 2007. After reporting financial difficulties, it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 6, 2017; the case converted to Chapter 7 on April 7. Its remaining stores closed permanently on May 25, 2017. In June, Valor Group LLC bought the brand and intellectual property, then launched an online retailer using the name in August. The new online business was not affiliated with the former chain. Valor opened a New Jersey storefront in 2019; it was reported closed in 2022.
