Jet America Airlines Youth Hoodie / Sweatshirt
For young aviation fans, this Jet America Airlines youth hoodie / sweatshirt brings an intriguing piece of airline history into everyday wear. Jet America started scheduled service in 1981 from Long Beach and grew to connect western cities with destinations farther east. Its MD-82 fleet, Las Vegas hub experiment, and 1987 merger tell a story of ambition and change in the domestic airline industry. A thoughtful choice for school days, travel, or a young collector discovering the carriers of the 1980s.
Jet America Airlines was a U.S. domestic carrier headquartered in Signal Hill, California, near Long Beach. Its founding group was led largely by former Air California executives. After receiving a Civil Aeronautics Board finding that it was fit to operate on June 18, 1981, the airline began service on November 16, flying from Long Beach Airport to Chicago O'Hare. By 1984 it served Dallas/Fort Worth, St. Louis, and Oakland and had introduced a frequent flyer program. Its fleet included McDonnell Douglas MD-82 aircraft; a short-lived Boeing 707 charter lease in 1984 ended in January 1985 after significant losses. New services to Detroit, Las Vegas, and Orange County followed in 1985. Jet America later operated a small Las Vegas hub and, as part of Alaska Air Group, flew routes linking western and eastern U.S. cities. Alaska completed its acquisition by the end of 1986, initially keeping the airlines separate. After reporting a $9 million Jet America loss for the first nine months of 1987, Alaska merged the carrier into Alaska Airlines in October 1987. Alaska then sold Jet America's Chicago O'Hare and Washington National slots to United Airlines.
