GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep cards close with a business card holder celebrating Just For Feet, the Birmingham retailer that grew from a single 1977 store into a major athletic footwear superstore chain. Its large-format locations brought shoppers an expansive selection, vendor concept shops and sports on video screens. The company’s story captures both the excitement of destination sneaker shopping and the changes that reshaped specialty retail at the turn of the century. A distinctive desk accessory for collectors of retail and sneaker history.
Just For Feet Inc. began with one store at Century Plaza in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1977. Its first superstore opened beside Riverchase Galleria in 1987, introducing a large-format athletic footwear concept with vendor shops, sports screenings, a basketball court, clearance footwear and a repeat-customer offer. The company became publicly traded in 1994 and expanded through company stores and franchises. Acquisitions drove further growth: Florida-based Athletic Attic and Michigan-based Imperial Sports joined in 1997, followed by New Jersey-based Sneaker Stadium in 1998, whose stores were converted to the Just For Feet name. By 1999, the chain operated more than 140 superstores in 25 states and Puerto Rico, with locations concentrated around major malls and a strong presence in the Southeast, Midwest and Southwest. A Super Bowl commercial in 1999 drew widespread criticism. That November, the company sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and entered Chapter 7 in February 2000. Footstar acquired the Just For Feet name and leases for more than 70 stores that month; remaining locations kept the name until Footstar sought Chapter 11 protection in 2004. The final Just For Feet stores closed that year.
