GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Kiwi International Air Lines started with a bold idea: former Eastern employees would build a new carrier after their bid for an established shuttle operation was rejected. The airline began flying from Newark in 1992, serving destinations such as Atlanta, Chicago, and Orlando before its routes and ownership changed. This heavy knit quarter-zip sweatshirt honors that compact story of entrepreneurship, restructuring, and aviation history. It is made for collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the people and independent spirit behind 1990s American airlines.

Kiwi International Air Lines was a U.S. airline founded by former Eastern Air Lines employees after that carrier entered bankruptcy in 1989. The founders first sought to buy Pan Am’s shuttle operation, but after their offer was rejected, they raised about $2 million and built a new airline. Kiwi began revenue flights on September 21, 1992, from Newark, New Jersey, with refurbished Boeing 727-200 aircraft serving Atlanta, Chicago, and Orlando. Its fleet later included McDonnell Douglas DC-9s. The airline emphasized added legroom and meals while operating a focused Newark-based route network. Financial and management difficulties led to bankruptcy in September 1996 and the end of scheduled service the following month. A bankruptcy sale in 1997 brought new ownership and a restart, with routes added and revised. In March 1999, federal authorities moved to revoke its operating certificate; Kiwi ceased flying that month. A bankruptcy judge approved the airline’s total liquidation in December 1999. Its brief history links the legacy of Eastern employees with Newark’s airline industry and the challenges faced by a small independent carrier.
