Celebrate Klopfenstein's with a small keepsake tied to a remarkable Pacific Northwest retail story. Founded in Tacoma, the menswear business later opened downtown Seattle stores, expanded into regional shopping centers, and became part of a changing retail landscape before its stores closed in 1993. This bottle opener is suited to collectors, home bars, and gatherings where memories of Tacoma, Seattle, and classic department store shopping make a good conversation starter.

Klopfenstein's was an upscale men's clothing retailer founded in Tacoma, Washington. Its roots reach back to 1909, when Clarence F. Klopfenstein and Samuel Conrad purchased a downtown Tacoma building for a menswear store. In 1918, Klopfenstein and Edward Mason opened a new men's store at 936 Pacific; after Klopfenstein bought out Mason in 1925, it became known as Klopfenstein's. The business opened in downtown Seattle in 1924 and later moved to Fourth Avenue. In 1939, a new Fourth Avenue store opened, and ownership passed from Clarence to his son Hugh. The retailer expanded into shopping centers, with locations including Northgate Mall in 1950, Lloyd Center in Oregon in 1960, Aurora Village in 1962, and Tacoma Mall in 1965. After merging with Seattle retailer Leslie-Hughes in 1966, it moved in 1967 to a large store at Sixth Avenue and Pine Street. Hartmarx acquired the company in 1968 and expanded its stores in the region and Alaska. The Seattle flagship moved to Two Union Square in 1989. Hartmarx sold the division in 1992; all Klopfenstein's stores had closed by summer 1993.

This slim, all-metal bottle opener feels like the trusted tool you reach for when friends gather and stories start. Forged from heavy-duty stainless steel, it slides into a pocket or bartending apron without bulk, then delivers confident leverage when a cold drink needs freeing. The flat surface accepts crisp laser engraving, so names, dates, or logos stay sharp through years of use. Use it behind the home bar, at backyard tailgates, or hand one to each member of your wedding party — it’s built to take commercial-level wear while still looking clean and refined. Simple, sturdy, and ready for the next toast.
