British and Commonwealth Holdings gained control of the firm in 1987 after acquiring Mercantile House. Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company acquired OppenheimerFunds in 1990 for $150 million. The firm expanded its investment offerings through acquisitions: SteelPath in July 2012, RevenueShares in 2015, and SNW Asset Management in 2017. It launched smart beta exchange-traded funds in 2016, including environmental, social, and corporate governance offerings, and opened its EMEA headquarters in London in October 2017. In 2018, it operated as a subsidiary of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company. On May 24, 2019, Invesco acquired the company for about $5 billion. At the end of February 2019, OppenheimerFunds managed more than $260 billion across over 13 million investor accounts. Its investment teams managed equity, fixed income, alternative, and multi-asset portfolios, as well as exchange-traded funds.
