Packard earned its place in American motoring through luxury cars, notable engineering, and a history that stretched from Warren, Ohio, to Detroit and beyond. This bottle opener brings that story to gatherings, garage evenings, and classic-car events, making it a fitting accent for enthusiasts who appreciate the marque. Remember the Twin Six, the company’s wartime engine work, and the independent automaker’s changing fortunes with an everyday piece inspired by Packard’s distinctive place in automotive history.

Packard began building automobiles in Warren, Ohio, in 1899. James Ward Packard, his brother William, and George Lewis Weiss founded the business; investors reorganized it as the Packard Motor Car Company in 1902, and operations soon moved to Detroit, Michigan. Known for high-quality luxury cars, Packard became one of the “Three Ps” of American motoring alongside Peerless and Pierce-Arrow. Its history included innovations such as the modern steering wheel, passenger-car air conditioning, and an early production 12-cylinder engine. During World War II, the company made aircraft and marine engines, including Merlin engines under contract with Rolls-Royce. After civilian production resumed, Packard faced mounting competition and difficulties preserving its luxury-car position. In 1953 it merged with Studebaker, forming Studebaker-Packard Corporation; proposed consolidation with American Motors did not take place. The Packard marque was phased out in 1959 after declining sales of Studebaker-built 1957 and 1958 model-year cars. The last Packards were built in South Bend, Indiana, in 1958.
