GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Show your appreciation for Rhino Video Games and the specialty shops that made game trading a neighborhood experience. Founded in Florida, Rhino grew from its first Ocala store in 1989 to a multistate chain, with a Gainesville location opening in 1992. The company moved from rentals toward buying, selling, and trading, then saw its stores change ownership before they were renamed in 2007. This polo celebrates a distinct chapter in American game retail history for longtime fans and collectors.
Rhino Video Games was an American retailer based in Gainesville, Florida, specializing in new and used video game software. Founder Mike Vorce opened movie-rental shop Video Plus in 1984, then added video game rentals after strong customer demand in 1988. In 1989, Vorce and early employee Bruce Ruckle opened Rhino’s first store in Ocala, Florida, on Silver Springs Boulevard. The shop focused exclusively on buying, selling, trading, and renting games and systems, an early specialty format in the southeastern United States. A Gainesville location followed in 1992, near the University of Florida. Vorce sold the remaining Video Plus stores in 1995 to focus on Rhino. In 1997, the chain ended rentals and concentrated on game trading. Expansion accelerated from 2000, when Rhino opened its first store outside Florida, in Hinesville, Georgia. The company established Gainesville corporate offices in 2001 and a neighboring distribution center in 2002; by 2003 it operated 35 stores. On May 17, 2004, Blockbuster acquired Rhino’s assets. Vorce and his team continued managing daily operations. Rhino then had 54 stores in nine states and more than 400 employees. GameStop acquired the business on January 4, 2007, and the stores were renamed by January 14.
