GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Give your phone a place to rest while keeping a piece of UMC history in view. Union Metallic Cartridge Company began in 1866 and built its major manufacturing presence in Bridgeport, where its 1909 shot tower became a notable landmark. The 1912 merger with Remington and the REM-UMC headstamp offer collectors plenty to explore. This foldable mobile phone display stand suits a desk, study area, or history-themed collection celebrating American cartridge manufacturing.
Union Metallic Cartridge Company, or UMC, grew from a New York sporting goods firm’s purchase of two small New England cartridge makers in 1866. Machinery from Crittenden & Tibbals Manufacturing Company in South Coventry, Connecticut, and C.D. Leet in Springfield, Massachusetts, was moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Production began under the name Union Metallic Cartridge & Cap Company; the operation was incorporated as Union Metallic Cartridge Company in September 1867. In February 1909, the company completed a 190-foot shot tower, where molten lead was dropped into cold water to form shot. Schuyler, Hartley & Graham had acquired E. Remington and Sons in 1888 and formed Remington Arms as its firearms-manufacturing arm. Remington and UMC merged in 1912, making Bridgeport the corporate headquarters, while firearms production remained in Ilion, New York. The Bridgeport complex became a major arms supplier during World War I. Ammunition production there continued until 1970, when a new factory opened in Lonoke, Arkansas; sporting and police ammunition carried the REM-UMC headstamp until that year. Remington moved its headquarters to Delaware in 1984 and had vacated the Bridgeport complex by 1988.
