West Coast Airlines Men's Sport Polo Shirt
Show your interest in regional aviation history with this West Coast Airlines Men's Sport Polo Shirt. Formed in 1941 and headquartered in Seattle, the carrier started scheduled service with DC-3 Scenicliners before introducing Fairchild F-27 turbine airliners in 1958. Its routes linked Pacific Northwest communities with cities across the western states, and its story became part of the Air West chapter in 1968. A distinctive choice for airline-history fans, aviation gatherings, or everyday wear with a nod to classic air travel.
Formed in 1941, West Coast Airlines was a federally certificated local service carrier headquartered in Seattle. It began scheduled passenger service in 1946 from Boeing Field, flying Douglas DC-3s marketed as Scenicliners, and acquired Empire Air Lines in 1952. Its network linked smaller communities in the Pacific Northwest with cities across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Montana, and California, extending north to Calgary, Alberta. In 1958, West Coast became the first U.S. local service airline to operate turbine airliners, introducing Fairchild F-27s. Douglas DC-9 jets joined its fleet, while a planned order for Fairchild 228 jets did not lead to production. On July 1, 1968, West Coast merged with Pacific Air Lines and Bonanza Air Lines to form Air West; that carrier became Hughes Airwest in 1970. Hughes Airwest was acquired by Republic Airlines in 1980, Republic by Northwest Airlines in 1986, and the Delta-Northwest merger was completed in 2010 with Delta as the surviving carrier. A 2001 effort to revive the West Coast Airlines name ended in bankruptcy.
