In 1986, Wings West began operating under the American Eagle name through a code-sharing agreement with American Airlines; AMR Corp. purchased the airline the following year. Its American Eagle service connected regional communities with hubs including San Jose, Los Angeles and San Francisco, using aircraft such as Convair 580s, Metroliners and Saab 340Bs. The airline was headquartered at McChesney Field in San Luis Obispo County, California. In 1996, Mary B. Jordan was named president. In 1998, Wings West merged with Simmons Airlines and Flagship Airlines into AMR Eagle Holdings Corporation, forming American Eagle Airlines, now known as Envoy Air.
