Fallas Discount Stores

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

National Stores Inc. began in 1962, when Joseph Fallas opened a single downtown Los Angeles shop under the Fallas Paredes name. The family-run retailer built its reputation on low-priced clothing, shoes, linens, housewares and whatever useful surprise had landed on the racks.

From its Gardena, California headquarters, National Stores expanded the Fallas universe through acquisitions. It picked up 31 Weiner’s locations in 2001, acquired Factory 2-U stores in 2004, bought the Conway chain in 2014, and added former Anna’s Linens locations in 2015. Fallas Discount Stores became one of several banners under the same decidedly bargain-minded roof.

In August 2018, National Stores filed for Chapter 11 reorganization and announced closures at 74 of its 344 stores. The chain cited an unforgiving retail environment, costs related to the Conway acquisition, hurricane-related disruption and a 2017 payment-card data breach. Additional Fallas and Factory 2-U closures followed, and the remaining retail operation wound down during 2022.

Our Fallas Discount Stores collection celebrates the fluorescent-lit thrill of stretching a dollar, finding a school outfit for less than lunch, and leaving with three things you never planned to buy. A proper tribute to the discount-store hunt: chaotic, practical, and gloriously unglamorous.
