Take a piece of independent film history along with you. Founded inside The Orchard in 2015, 1091 Pictures developed from a video-on-demand operation into a distributor connected with theatrical releases, including an early slate planned with Mark and Jay Duplass. The company name changed to 1091 Media in 2019 and returned to 1091 Pictures for distribution in 2020. This tumbler celebrates that eventful path, making it a fitting everyday companion for film fans and collectors tracing media-company stories.
1091 Pictures began in 2015 as the film and television division of The Orchard, a Sony subsidiary, and initially operated as a video-on-demand business. By the end of that year, it had expanded into theatrical releases, including a planned seven-film slate with Mark and Jay Duplass, and acquired Cartel Land, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary in 2016. Its catalog also included the Oscar-nominated Life, Animated. In January 2019, The Orchard divested its film and television assets; they were acquired by 1091 Media, a holding company owned by The Orchard's original ownership team and Dimensional Associates. The business adopted the 1091 Media name on April 3, 2019, and signed a multi-year distribution agreement with Fathom Events that month. In July 2020, its distribution business became 1091 Pictures, while its parent adopted the name Streamwise for a technology platform in development. Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment acquired 1091 Pictures in March 2022. After the parent filed for Chapter 11 protection in June 2024, a court converted the case to Chapter 7 liquidation on July 11; the article identifies the resulting cessation of subsidiaries, including 1091 Pictures.
