Founded in 1994 by Jim Clark and Marc Andreessen, Netscape became one of the defining companies of the early Internet. Netscape Navigator helped turn the World Wide Web from a technical curiosity into something ordinary people could actually use, and for a brief glorious moment it seemed like Netscape might own the future.

Then Microsoft noticed.

Internet Explorer was bundled into Windows, the Browser Wars began, and Netscape’s once-dominant market share collapsed. AOL acquired the company in 1999, browser development eventually ended, and Netscape faded into Internet history.
