US Airways

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

US Airways traced its roots to All American Aviation, founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1939. It began as an airmail carrier serving the Ohio River Valley, then moved into passenger flying and adopted the name Allegheny Airlines in 1953. Regional airline? Sure. For a while. The little carrier had bigger boarding-group ambitions.

After airline deregulation, Allegheny became USAir on October 28, 1979, a name built for a carrier stretching well beyond its old Appalachian identity. The airline expanded through the 1989 acquisitions of Piedmont Airlines and Pacific Southwest Airlines, collecting route maps, aircraft, and the usual merger-era organizational turbulence.

The company rebranded as US Airways in 1997. Its longtime corporate headquarters were in Arlington, Virginia; after two Chapter 11 reorganizations, US Airways merged with America West Airlines on September 27, 2005, and the combined company was based in Tempe, Arizona. The new operation retained the US Airways name, along with plenty of familiar airline-industry complexity.

American Airlines Group acquired US Airways Group on December 9, 2013. A single operating certificate followed on April 8, 2015, and the US Airways brand ended after Flight 1939 on October 17, 2015—an appropriately numbered final lap for a lineage born in 1939.

Our US Airways collection celebrates the navy-and-red era of boarding passes, hub maps, Dividend Miles, and the stubbornly grand idea that every connection would be a smooth one. Gate changes, not included.
