Wien Air Alaska

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Wien Air Alaska traced its roots to Noel Wien’s first Alaska air-charter work in Nome in 1924, when aviation in the territory was less an industry than a cold-weather dare. Northern Air Transport was incorporated in 1929, and the evolving operation became Wien Alaska Airlines in 1936. It grew from bush-plane beginnings into a crucial carrier for communities across a state where the road trip was often a very long flight.

In 1968, Wien Alaska Airlines merged with Northern Consolidated Airlines. The surviving business operated as Wien Consolidated Airlines from Anchorage, then took the Wien Air Alaska name in 1973. The carrier connected Alaska’s far-flung towns with Fairbanks, Anchorage, Seattle, and eventually points farther south—because apparently regular airline economics were not sufficiently adventurous.

The company’s fleet and operations reflected its unusual geography: turboprops, prop aircraft, and Boeing jets worked routes that linked isolated settlements with larger cities. Wien helped bring modern jet service into Alaska’s demanding operating environment, while maintaining the visual confidence of an airline that had seen some weather.

Our Wien Air Alaska collection celebrates a pioneering Alaska airline whose long route map, tough-airfield spirit, and unmistakable winged-era optimism outlast the timetable. For anyone who likes vintage aviation with a little tundra in its teeth, this ghost still flies first class in our imagination.
