Zune
Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Launched by Microsoft in 2006, Zune was the company’s ambitious answer to Apple’s iPod — a line of portable music players backed by its own software, online music store, and eventually the Zune Pass subscription service. It had sleek hardware, wireless music sharing, and a small but fiercely loyal fan base.
What it did not have was a time machine back to before Apple had already taken over the portable music world.
Microsoft continued developing Zune hardware through several generations, including the well-regarded Zune HD, but discontinued the players in 2011 and gradually retired the remaining Zune services over the following years.
Great hardware. Interesting ideas. Absolutely brutal timing.
