The first U.S. model, Zune 30, arrived on November 14, 2006 with 30 GB storage, FM radio, and a 3-inch screen. Later hardware included the flash-based Zune 4, 8, and 16; hard-drive Zune 80 and 120; and the touch-screen Zune HD, introduced in 2009 in 16 GB and 32 GB versions, followed by a 64 GB model in April 2010. The brand also encompassed Zune Pass, Zune Marketplace, Windows desktop software, and services for Xbox 360, KIN, and Windows Phone. Zune followed Microsoft’s MSN Music service, created in 2004, and the Portable Media Center platform. Microsoft ended new hardware development in March 2011 and discontinued all Zune hardware in October 2011. Zune digital offerings were replaced by Xbox Music and Xbox Video in 2012, while Zune Software was succeeded for Windows Phone 8 syncing by the Windows Phone App.
