GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a nod to the company that helped make consumer 3D graphics a defining part of PC gaming. 3dfx Interactive began in 1994 and built its reputation around Voodoo hardware and the Glide API. Its change from OEM chip supplier to branded graphics-card maker reflects a pivotal shift in the computer industry, while the company's eventual closure gives its story a distinct ending. This coffee mug makes a welcome choice for collectors, gamers, and fans of computing history.
Founded on August 24, 1994, as 3D/fx, Inc., 3dfx Interactive was an American graphics hardware company headquartered in San Jose, California. Founders Ross Smith, Gary Tarolli, and Scott Sellers had worked at Silicon Graphics; Gordie Campbell of TechFarm later joined them. The company sent its first Voodoo Graphics chip to manufacturing on November 6, 1995, and became known for 3D acceleration and its Glide API. Initially an OEM chip supplier, it entered the consumer card market as affordable 3D hardware expanded. Voodoo Graphics and Voodoo2 helped establish its presence, followed by integrated products including Voodoo Banshee and Voodoo3. In December 1998, 3dfx acquired graphics-card maker STB Systems, aiming to build and sell its own cards; the shift strained relationships with some OEM customers. Delays and stronger competition affected later Voodoo products. 3dfx acquired GigaPixel in March 2000. Nvidia acquired most of its assets on December 15, 2000, primarily for intellectual property, and 3dfx ended product support on February 15, 2001. The company filed for bankruptcy on October 15, 2002.
