Founded in California in 1998 or 1999 as 3PARdata, 3PAR developed storage systems and software for information management. Founders Jeffrey Price and Ashok Singhal supplied the P and A in its name; Robert Rogers supplied the R and left in 2001. David Scott became president and CEO in January 2001. The company shipped its InServ storage server in September 2002 and announced thin provisioning that June, shipping the capability to customers in 2003. After opening a research and development office in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 2007, 3PAR completed an initial public offering and listed on NYSE Arca. It moved to the NYSE Big Board in December 2008 and opened an Indian subsidiary in Bangalore the following year. In 2010, competing acquisition bids from Dell and HP culminated in HP completing its acquisition of 3PAR on September 27 for $2.35 billion. 3PAR became a wholly owned HP subsidiary. In 2015, HP's enterprise assets, including 3PAR, were spun off into Hewlett Packard Enterprise, where the 3PAR name continued in storage product lines.
