Product Details & Size Guide
For young creatives and families who remember weekend project runs, this A.C. Moore youth hoodie connects a familiar name with a lively chapter in craft retail. Founded in Moorestown in 1985, the chain expanded to 145 stores across the eastern United States and stocked supplies for crafts, decor and seasonal making. Its story spans growth, changing ownership and a 2019 closure announcement, with stores closed by July 2020. A nostalgic design for fans, not an official company product.
A.C. Moore began in 1985 as a single arts and crafts store in Moorestown, New Jersey, founded by Jack Parker and William Kaplan. Parker, its president, had merchandising experience at Woolworth's, while Kaplan, its CEO, had worked in fashion production. The chain went public in October 1997 and grew to 145 stores across the eastern United States, with corporate headquarters in Berlin, New Jersey. Its merchandise ranged from scrapbooking, beading, knitting, rubber stamping and paints to floral goods, home decor, framing, children's crafts and seasonal items. The retailer became known for discounts and price competition. Sales peaked at $598 million in 2006 before declining. In 2011, supplier Sbar's and its affiliate Nicole Crafts acquired the company through a merger valued at $41 million; A.C. Moore became a Nicole Crafts subsidiary, and Sbar's seven stores were absorbed into the chain. On November 25, 2019, A.C. Moore announced plans to wind down and close all 145 stores, while selling selected leases, a distribution center and unspecified intellectual property assets to Michaels. All stores were closed by July 2020, when Michaels took over the distribution facility on A.C. Moore Drive in Winslow, New Jersey.
