Product Details & Size Guide
Introduce young car fans to Abbott-Detroit, a company that helped shape the early story of American luxury motoring. Founded in Detroit in 1909, it presented a car designed by John G. Utz and equipped with a Continental engine. Its models ranged from roadsters to limousines, and the company later moved production to Cleveland. This kids tee brings a real piece of automotive history into everyday style, with a story that connects invention, growing production, and two important manufacturing cities.
Founded in Detroit, Michigan, in 1909 by Charles S. Abbott, Abbott-Detroit made luxury automobiles for the early twentieth-century market. Its first car was designed by John G. Utz, whose earlier work included the Chalmers and experience at Olds Motor Works and the Autocar Company. The car featured a Continental engine and was praised at its presentation for its power and design. By 1913, the company guaranteed its cars for life and had standardized electric lighting and starting. It expected total production of 3,000 cars for the 1911 model year. The range included roadsters, a demi tonneau, a limousine, and Models F, L, and K. Around June 1910, the company opened a dealership in Kansas City, Missouri, at 321 Admiral Boulevard. As output reached 15 to 20 cars a day by 1916, Abbott-Detroit moved from Detroit to a larger facility in Cleveland. The move strained its finances, and the company declared bankruptcy in April 1918. Abbott-Detroit automobiles were manufactured from 1909 through 1919.
