GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Bring a piece of Reading’s early motoring story into everyday wear with this Acme Motor Car Company polo shirt. Acme grew from the Reber name in 1903, building touring cars, runabouts, and delivery vehicles at its Eighth and Elm Streets works. Its changing fortunes, six-cylinder Sextuplet, and later racing publicity give collectors plenty to remember. A thoughtful choice for classic-car gatherings, history-minded outings, or anyone drawn to the story of a short-lived American automobile make.

The Acme was an American automobile make built in Reading, Pennsylvania, from 1903 to 1911, succeeding the Reber, produced from 1902 to 1903. In June 1903 James C. Reber acquired a former bicycle factory at Eighth and Elm Streets and announced that Reber Manufacturing would change its name to the Acme Motor Car Company. Production began at four to six cars a week, and by 1905 the company was making two or three automobiles daily. The firm exhibited at the Chicago and New York automobile shows and joined the founding membership of the American Motor Car Manufacturers Association. After entering receivership in 1906, it was sold in 1907 to Herbert M. Sternbergh, who introduced the six-cylinder Sextuplet. Acme offered touring cars, runabouts, delivery vehicles, and other body styles, and later promoted racing and endurance events. In May 1911 its Reading site and plant were sold to J. H. Sternbergh, who sold the company to a New York consortium. The company name then changed to SGV. Acme also acquired parts from Lancia for SGV cars, including an engine and four-speed transmission.
