GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Capture ideas alongside a piece of Adelphia’s communications history with this Spiral Notebook. Gus and John Rigas began the company’s story in 1952 by buying a cable franchise in Coudersport, Pennsylvania. Adelphia later combined cable properties under its name, expanded into advertising and business services, and reached more than two million subscribers in 1998. Its path from regional beginnings through industry change makes this a thoughtful pick for note-taking, collecting, or remembering the cable era.
Adelphia Communications Corporation began in 1952, when brothers Gus and John Rigas bought a cable television franchise in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, for $300. After two decades in the business, they incorporated the company as Adelphia, a Greek word meaning “brothers,” and combined cable properties under its name. The company went public and expanded into advertising through Adelphia Media Services in 1989, then business internet, telephone and voice-messaging services through Adelphia Business Solutions in 1991. It reached more than two million subscribers in 1998. Financial revelations in 2002 exposed $2.3 billion in unrecorded co-borrowings involving Rigas family entities; Adelphia filed for bankruptcy that June. A restructuring plan was approved in 2004. In July 2006, the company sold its cable operations to Comcast and Time Warner for $17.6 billion, and ceased doing business. Time Warner Cable succeeded Adelphia as a publicly traded corporation in 2007. Its cable assets were spun out in 2009 and acquired by Charter Communications in 2016; the service is now known as Spectrum. The Rigas family also established Zito Media to serve some areas not included in the sale, including much of Potter County, Pennsylvania.
