GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep Aeroamerica’s unusual airline story in mind wherever the day takes you. The Seattle company launched commercial flights in 1974, built a major charter presence at Berlin Tegel and later tested scheduled service between Seattle and Spokane. Boeing jets and a BAC One-Eleven made its fleet especially varied for a carrier of its size. This travel mug celebrates a brief, distinctive chapter in aviation history, from overseas tour flying to a final return to the skies before operations ended in 1982.
Aeroamerica, Inc. was incorporated in Seattle in August 1973 and received commercial operator certification on January 9, 1974, using the dormant operating certificate of Standard Airways. It began commercial flying in 1974 with six used Boeing 720s, five formerly operated by Braniff and one from Aer Lingus. The company grew from the air-travel-club business founded by Joel Eisenberg: Club International began in Oregon in February 1971, later used the AirClub International name, and was ordered shut by federal regulators in September 1974. Aeroamerica established its overseas base at Berlin Tegel in 1975, taking over a charter contract from Modern Air to fly for tour operator Berliner Flugring. Berlin became the airline’s main base, and by 1976 its fleet there included Boeing 720s, a Boeing 707-120B and a BAC One-Eleven. From 1977, business declined amid labor disputes, aging aircraft and reliability problems. Aeroamerica entered scheduled service between Seattle and Spokane in 1978, then closed its Tegel base in November 1979 after Berliner Flugring declined to renew its contract. It reorganized under Chapter 11 that year, resumed operations in 1980, added Seattle–Reno service in July 1982 and ceased flying later that year after an FAA maintenance grounding.
