Bring a chapter of regional aviation history to your next gathering with this Air Albania can cooler. The airline was established in 2018 as a partnership among Turkish Airlines, Albania’s state-owned air navigation provider and private investment. Its first service connected Tirana and Istanbul, reflecting renewed hopes for an Albanian flag carrier. The network later contracted, and flights were suspended in 2025. A distinctive keepsake for airline collectors, travel fans and anyone interested in Albania’s aviation story.
Air Albania was established on 16 May 2018 as a public–private partnership between Turkish Airlines, Albania’s state-owned Albcontrol and private firm MDN Investment. The Government of Albania pursued a successor to Albanian Airlines after that carrier collapsed in 2011. Plans were announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama on 30 March 2017, with the partnership confirmed on 8 May and the Air Albania name revealed on 21 November that year. Turkish Airlines held a 49% stake, Albcontrol 10% and MDN Investment 41%. Based at Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza in Tirana, the airline began service on 14 September 2018 with an inaugural Tirana–Istanbul flight using an Airbus A319. In May 2020 it received a European Union Aviation Safety Agency Third Country Operator certificate, permitting service between Albania and EU member states. Its network later contracted, with operations largely centered on Tirana–Istanbul by 2025. Turkish Airlines announced its withdrawal in November 2025. In December, Albania’s civil aviation authority suspended the airline’s operating licence indefinitely, and it had not resumed flights by the end of that month.
