Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Keep notes alongside a compelling aviation story with an Air America spiral notebook. The company's origins trace to a 1946 relief transport organization, followed by the Civil Air Transport name in 1950 and Air America in 1959. From Vientiane to bases in Thailand, Taiwan, and Japan, its operations reflected the changing demands of air travel across Southeast Asia. A thoughtful pick for aviation enthusiasts, history students, writers, and collectors interested in this complex corporate legacy.

Air America grew from an air transport organization founded in 1946 by aviator Claire Lee Chennault and diplomat Whiting Willauer to carry food and supplies into war-damaged China. First called Chinese National Relief and Rehabilitation Administration Air Transport, it was pressed into service during the Chinese civil war. In August 1950, the CIA bought the company and renamed it Civil Air Transport; in 1959, it adopted the Air America name. Its first two Air America transports arrived in Vientiane, Laos, on August 23, 1959. From 1959 to 1975, the airline supported operations across Southeast Asia, flying cargo, passengers, refugees, personnel, and humanitarian supplies in Laos, South Vietnam, and Cambodia, as well as operating from bases in Thailand, Taiwan, and Japan. Its varied fleet included fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, and its work ranged from scheduled passenger service to resupply and search-and-rescue flights. In 1975, Air America helicopters took part in the evacuation of civilians from Saigon. After an attempted company presence in Udon Thani, Thailand, failed, Air America was dissolved on June 30, 1976. Air Asia, the subsidiary holding its assets, was later purchased by Evergreen International Airlines.
