Keep a piece of airline history close with an Air Gemini phone case. Founded in Luanda in 1999, Air Gemini began as a cargo carrier serving the mining industry and supporting humanitarian aid flights before launching passenger services in 2002. Its operations ended in 2010, while a 2011 fleet listing recorded Boeing 727 and DC-9 aircraft. This case connects everyday use with a specific story from Angola’s aviation past and suits collectors drawn to African airlines and charter carriers.
Air Gemini, also known as Air Gemini Cargo, was an airline based in Luanda, Angola. Founded in 1999, it initially operated as a cargo carrier, serving the local mining industry with charter flights into Quatro de Fevereiro Airport and also supporting humanitarian aid missions. In 2001, a cargo aircraft ran off the runway while landing at Dundo Airport after a flight from Luanda; one ground worker died. The airline began passenger services in 2002, expanding beyond its original cargo role. Amid safety concerns affecting the Angolan airline industry, it appeared on the European Union list of air carriers banned from operating there. Financial difficulties in 2010 led to reduced operations, and the airline stopped flying that year. A fleet listing for 2011, after flights had ceased, recorded three Boeing 727s and three DC-9s. The article identifies no merger or successor, so the company’s documented story ends with its 2010 shutdown.
